Iran FM: US Calls for Negotiations are an Admission of Defeat

Buenos Aires, March 25 (NA) — Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, questioned the United States' calls for negotiations on Wednesday, stating that Washington's shift in tone amounts to an admission of failure, after previously demanding an 'unconditional surrender'. 'Did the Americans not say 'unconditional surrender'?', Araghchi said in a televised interview broadcast this Wednesday by the state Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). 'So why are they talking about negotiation now?', reported CNN and learned by the Argentine News Agency. Araghchi added that 'the fact that they are talking about negotiation now is exactly an admission of defeat'. He also said that the United States has sent multiple messages to Tehran in recent days through what he described as 'friendly countries', but emphasized that these communications do not constitute negotiations. 'The fact that messages are sent and we respond with warnings or state our positions is not called negotiation or dialogue; it is an exchange of messages', he stressed. 'In those messages, ideas were raised that have been transmitted to the highest authorities, and if it is necessary to take a position, they will announce it', Araghchi said. The White House, for its part, said that talks with Iran are progressing well, even after Tehran did not immediately accept a 15-point plan to end the war. Araghchi also cited an NBC News report according to which President Donald Trump is shown selective videos highlighting successful US attacks. The Iranian minister denounced the 'sale' of the war to the American public and even to the president himself every day.
