Chants were heard in the streets of Tehran on Saturday night, according to eyewitnesses, following reports of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israeli attack. According to several witnesses, loud chants and applause were heard in several neighborhoods of Tehran after 11 p.m. local time. Iran has not yet confirmed Khamenei's death, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stated shortly before that there were 'many indicators' of the death of the Iranian Supreme Leader on Saturday. US President Donald Trump also announced Khamenei's death shortly after on his Truth Social platform. According to Israeli media, a photo of the body was shown to Netanyahu and Trump. In videos circulating on social media and verified by AFP, chants and car horns can be heard. However, according to social media reports, residents did not come out into the streets in large numbers. Many Iranians have been living in fear since January, during a deadly crackdown on mass protests.
