Iran has communicated to the world its intention to invoke Article 51 of the United Nations Charter to respond to the recent bombings carried out by Israel on its territory. The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement following the Israeli attacks on military targets, manufacturing facilities, and missile launch sites in the country, which resulted in the death of at least 4 Iranian soldiers.
Abbas Araqchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, accused Israel of being responsible for the tensions in the Middle East and pointed to the United States for collaborating in what he described as genocide in Gaza and Lebanon. Araqchi emphasized the legitimate right to self-defense, reflected in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, to confront acts of foreign aggression.
Araqchi's statements on Saturday, October 26, have increased tensions between the two countries, asserting that Iran's determination to defend itself knows no bounds and that there will be a response.
The tension between Israel and Iran dates back to Iranian participation in conflicts in the region, such as support for Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah, groups considered terrorists by Israel. Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran have been known as the "Axis of Resistance" against the "militarism" of the Israeli regime, supported by the United States.
