The Iranian ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, stated that Israel is not only attacking Iran, Palestine, or Lebanon, but is «dragging the entire world towards chaos». He also pointed out that the United States are being used by the Israeli government for its political purposes.
«For more than 78 years, our region has paid the price for the birth and survival of an entity that with every passing moment endangers global security,» the ambassador said on Wednesday, referring to Israel, during an urgent debate on the war convened by the UN Human Rights Council.
The debate was called by Arab countries in protest against Iranian retaliatory attacks on their territories. Bahreini warned them that «Iran will not be the last; then you will become the object of the cynical agenda of the Israeli regime».
He also defended that the responsibility for the attacks suffered by Iran, «which have caused more than 1,500 deaths, including 300 children,» lies not only with Israel and the United States, but also with «those who have supported and encouraged them,» referring to countries that have US bases on their territory.
«It is our duty to respond to these attacks and prevent further aggression,» Bahreini stated, who described Israel as a «vicious entity» that has «designed an anti-Iran project».
After his speech, the Iranian ambassador left the Human Rights Council, in apparent protest at the bias of Wednesday's debate, which was called by Arab countries to focus on the attacks suffered in their territories, and not those launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
However, the Iranian delegation has managed to have an alternative urgent debate called this Friday, March 27, focusing on US and Israeli attacks such as the one suffered by the school in Minab, with about 160 dead, mostly girls.
Two member countries of the Council, China and Cuba, requested on behalf of Iran the holding of that second debate.
