Iranian President Sets Conditions for Ending Middle East War

The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, stated on Saturday that the condition to end the war in the Middle East is the 'immediate cessation of aggressions' by the United States and Israel, as well as guarantees that these attacks will not be repeated in the future. 'The condition to end the war and conflict in the region is the immediate cessation of aggressions by the United States and the Zionist regime, as well as a guarantee that they will not be repeated in the future,' Pezeshkian said in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, according to IRNA news agency. The Iranian leader emphasized that Iran 'did not start the war' and accused the United States and Israel of launching attacks 'without justification or legal basis' amid nuclear negotiations, which he said has caused the death of high-ranking military and civilian personnel. He called for an end to what he described as 'inhumane and immoral' actions. Likewise, he rejected the arguments put forward by Washington to justify the military offensive, particularly the alleged intention to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, and reiterated that the country maintains a peaceful program and is willing to subject its nuclear activities to international supervision. The Iranian president also insisted on the need to strengthen unity among the countries of the region and proposed the creation of a regional security mechanism that guarantees stability without the intervention of external actors. In turn, Modi expressed India's concern over the increase in tensions in the Middle East and defended the need to resume the path of dialogue as soon as possible, according to IRNA. The Indian head of government also warned of the risks posed by attacks on energy infrastructure to global security and stressed the importance of guaranteeing freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf, alluding to Iran's blockade of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world's oil passes.
