Iran confirmed on Sunday the discretionary closure of the Strait of Hormuz for vessels from the United States and Israel, directly defying the 48-hour ultimatum issued by President Donald Trump for the full liberation of the maritime route.The Tehran administration maintains that the passage remains operational for international navigation, albeit under a strict state supervision protocol, in a context of maximum military tension in the Persian Gulf region.Iran's Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Ambassador to London, Ali Musavi, is the one who gives voice to the official position by assuring that "the Strait of Hormuz is open to all, except for enemies".According to the official, the transit of ships through this crucial area for global trade is only possible through "coordination with Iranian authorities for security and protection provisions".Trump's tough warning to Iran if it does not open the Strait of HormuzAccording to what the Argentine News Agency learned, the diplomat points to the "aggression" of the alliance between Washington and Tel Aviv as the trigger factor for the current crisis and emphasizes that control of the area responds to a need to safeguard sovereignty against external attacks.In this sense, Musavi underlines that while Tehran's management seeks to avoid a major escalation, there are non-negotiable conditions to normalize activity in the channel: "Diplomacy remains Iran's priority. However, the total cessation of aggression, as well as mutual trust, are even more important."For the Iranian government, the military operations led by US and Israeli forces constitute "the root of the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz", invalidating the demand for unrestricted opening posed by the White House.As the ultimatum deadline approaches, Tehran reaffirms its willingness to cooperate with the IMO and other countries to improve the safety of sailors, as long as the surveillance scheme imposed by its security forces on maritime transit is respected.
