Iran Shuts Down Internet Following US and Israel Strikes

The Iranian government interrupted internet and telephone communications nationwide on Saturday in response to the air strikes launched by the United States and Israel against strategic cities. According to Netblocks, an organization dedicated to monitoring global connectivity, internet access plummeted to just 4% of normal levels, representing a near-total information blackout. The measure took effect shortly after the first explosions were reported in Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, and Karaj, leaving the population cut off during a military operation that President Donald Trump described as a plan to 'annihilate' and 'wreck' the regime's infrastructure. Israel and the United States bombed Iran, and Tehran has already launched a counter-offensive. According to information obtained by Noticias Argentinas, the Iranian administration justified the blackout on national security grounds, arguing that the restrictions aim to prevent digital systems from facilitating the 'geolocation of enemy drones' and communication between Israeli forces and informants within the country. However, the measure deepens the isolation of a nation that had already implemented similar cuts during last January's protests, when the complete outage lasted for more than two weeks. In this context of extreme tension, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a state of special emergency, while the digital blackout in Iran prevents a precise assessment of the damage to command centers that, according to Israeli sources, sought to eliminate the country's supreme leadership.
