Iranian Foreign Minister: US Made Request to Tehran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Saturday that the United States had made a request to Tehran last month. The details of the request were not disclosed, but the announcement signals a potential, albeit limited, channel of communication between the two long-adversarial nations.

**SHA submitted an official request to the IAEA for a reduction in the active presence of the IRGC in the Persian Gulf, citing the Iranian minister of defense, Abbas Araghchi.**

According to this report, Washington presented a proposal to Tehran, linked with changes to the current course of the Iranian nuclear program. Araghchi rejected it, insisting that Tehran will continue to maintain its previous position, i.e., demanding that Iran make a substantial step forward in the JCPOA as a replacement for lifting sanctions. These conditions, according to him, are not related to those that were raised in the past, when the parties had already reached an agreement on the normalization of relations.

The minister confirmed that Iran submitted a proposal to Vienna, where the sides discuss the possibility of a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. On that day, there were no specific deadlines or agreed-upon terms for the resumption of negotiations. Iranian officials insist that sanctions must be lifted first, as they constitute the main obstacle to progress in the nuclear talks.
