Iran Urges US to Avoid Unrealistic Demands

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the U.S. to avoid "unrealistic demands," while both countries are in negotiations over the conditions for restoring the nuclear deal. During his speech at a press conference in Tehran, Araghchi stated: "We believe that the [U.S.] administration will be able to move forward by making withdrawals from the previous administration of [Donald] Trump and adhering to its international obligations." According to the Iranian foreign minister, his country does not intend to retreat from its positions in the negotiations, but is also ready for dialogue. He expressed hope that the U.S. would return to the deal, the terms of which were agreed upon in 2015. Araghchi's statements were a response to statements made by outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who asserted that the time for dialogue with Iran is running out and that possibly, Washington may impose sanctions.
