China Reinforces Ties with Iran Amidst U.S. Tensions

In the context of escalating international tensions, China is strengthening its trade and energy ties with Tehran, while Moscow positions itself as an important ally for Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Iran has accumulated 274 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, approaching the threshold for military use.

In a trilateral meeting, the deputy foreign ministers of China, Iran, and Russia called for an end to all unilateral sanctions by the United States and the creation of a favorable atmosphere for diplomacy. They highlighted the importance of dialogue based on mutual respect as the only viable solution, urging the abandonment of sanctions, pressures, and threats, referring clearly to the United States.

Iran condemned the new U.S. sanctions against its oil industry as a display of Washington's dishonesty, which, despite insisting on negotiations, continues its policy of maximum pressure. The trilateral meeting also emphasized the importance of respecting UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which supports the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

China and Russia praised Iran's commitment to a peaceful nuclear program and its cooperation with the IAEA. The three parties asserted that no country should undermine the impartial work of the agency and agreed to maintain communication regarding the Iranian nuclear issue.

These discussions occur in a context of rising tensions with the United States, which has intensified its maximum pressure policy on Iran with new sanctions to curb its oil exports. Meanwhile, Iran has refused to enter negotiations under pressure and intimidation, seeking an agreement based on mutual respect.

China and Russia seek to position themselves as mediators in this conflict, while Iran has rapidly accelerated its nuclear program in recent months.
