Iranian officials reiterated their position of not negotiating with the United States under pressure or sanctions. The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, confirmed that the country has not received any letter from the U.S. to discuss its nuclear program.
In an interview with Fox Business Network, Trump mentioned his interest in engaging in negotiations with Iran on the nuclear issue and said he had sent a letter to Iranian leadership. Baghaei pointed out that Iran has never ruled out the possibility of negotiations but rejects talks based on intimidation and threats.
"We warn that the use of force is a forbidden and criminal act under international law," emphasized Baghaei, responding to statements from Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Waltz, in February.
Iran's permanent mission to the UN also denied having received any letter from Trump. In 2015, Iran signed the JCPOA with the P5+1, committing to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. However, in May 2018, the U.S. withdrew from the agreement and reimposed sanctions, leading Iran to reverse some of its nuclear commitments.
Attempts to reactivate the agreement have not made significant progress so far.
