The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, confirmed on Thursday that his country does not seek to possess nuclear weapons.
During a speech at a ceremony in the Ardakan region, Raisi stated: "Our religion does not allow the production of weapons of mass destruction." He also added that Iran continues to cooperate with international agencies on nuclear energy and invites all neighboring countries to dialogue and peace.
After the U.S. exited the nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, tensions in the region significantly increased. However, Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful and aimed at developing the energy sector.
