Fuel Distribution Temporarily Halted in Tehran After Strikes

Fuel distribution in Tehran has been 'temporarily' suspended, according to an Iranian official announced on Sunday after American and Israeli airstrikes that targeted four oil depots and a logistics site used for transporting petroleum products in the Iranian capital and its surroundings, resulting in four deaths. The official IRNA agency quoted Tehran Governor Mohammad Sadgh Motamedi as saying, 'Due to damage to the fuel supply network, distribution has been temporarily suspended.' The managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, Karat Vis Karimi, told state television, 'Last night, aviation targeted four oil depots and a center for transporting petroleum products in central Tehran and Alborz.' Smoke rising from the fires caused by these strikes spread over Tehran at night, creating a black cloud that covered the sky in the morning, according to France Presse journalists. Iranian environmental bodies called on residents to stay at home to avoid inhaling smoke and subsequent respiratory problems and other health risks. The Iranian Red Crescent explained that 'large quantities of toxic hydrocarbons, sulfur, and nitrogen oxides' were released from the fires, while residents reported a strong smell of burning. The non-governmental organization warned in a statement that any rainfall 'will be extremely dangerous and highly acidic,' cautioning against the risk of severe skin burns and serious lung damage.
