Iran made significant progress towards qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, winning 3-2 against North Korea in Laos, securing 13 points in the group stage.

The Iranian national team advanced in Group A of the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup in Asia, defeating the North Korean team 3-2. Iran opened the scoring with a goal from Mehdi Ghaedi in the first half and two goals from Mohammadi before half-time.

The North Korean team managed to reduce the deficit in the second half after Ghaedi's mistake and a goal from Kim Yu-Sung after the Iranian defender was sent off. As a result of Iran's victory, the team was able to increase their points tally to 13 and is now ahead of the Uzbek national team, which has 10 points.

Iran opened the scoring thanks to Ghaedi, who scored a goal after a pass from Taremi. Later, the team maintained the advantage after a pass from Taremi and a goal from Mohammadi. As a result, before half-time, Mohammadi scored another goal after yet another pass from Taremi.

North Korea was able to score two goals after the Iranian defender was sent off. The first goal was scored following a corner kick taken by the Koreans and a mistake by Ghaedi. The second goal was scored after a set piece.

Iran was unable to capitalize on penalties after a foul on Taremi. After that, North Korea counterattacked and released the ball to the striker. In the end, the Iranian national team won with a score of 3-2 and continues its successful performances in the qualifying tournament.
