Iranian volleyball star Saber Kazemi has died at the age of 26. He had been in a coma since last month in Doha, according to official Iranian media. The international player was set to join Qatari club Al-Rayyan this season. Iran's official news agency (IRNA) reported that Kazemi «died in the early hours of Wednesday». IRNA explained that Kazemi suffered a brain injury in October while at a pool during his stay in Doha. Kazemi was briefly hospitalized there before being transferred to Tehran, where brain death was announced shortly after the incident, according to the agency. Kazemi was born in Gilan province in northern Iran, where he will be buried. Qasem Ali Barzmani, head of the youth and sports department of Gilan province, said: «Saber Kazemi was a valuable sports talent in the country and a beloved figure in Iranian volleyball».
