Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Dnya Mali announced on Wednesday that the national football team cannot participate in the 2026 World Cup. Speaking on official state television, the minister stated that Iran cannot compete in the tournament after the United States killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. "Given that this corrupt regime (the United States) assassinated our leader, we cannot under any circumstances participate in the World Cup," he added.
