U.S.-Iran Conflict Escalates

The conflict between the U.S. and Iran has resulted in significant casualties. According to the organization HRANA, over 1,500 civilians, at least 1,167 military personnel, and 695 unidentified individuals have died in Iran. In contrast, 13 U.S. soldiers have been killed and nearly 300 wounded. The White House has ruled out a ground operation in Iran, leading to new threats from Tehran, including attacks on Israel and U.S. targets in the Persian Gulf, as well as increased control over the Strait of Hormuz. In parallel, Washington and Tehran have initiated indirect talks mediated by Pakistan. President Donald Trump announced he has postponed the ultimatum for Iran until April 6, after which its power plants will be destroyed if the strait is not reopened. In the first month of the Middle East war, the U.S. has attacked over 11,000 targets in Iran, including approximately 150 ships, according to U.S. Central Command (Centcom). Targets included command and control centers, as well as Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intelligence sites. Ballistic missile sites, Iranian submarines, air defense systems, military communication infrastructure, and drone and weapon factories were also struck. "For decades, Iranian vessels have threatened global trade, but those days are over," the statement said. Hours earlier, Centcom announced the deployment of the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli with an additional 3,500 troops, along with transport and combat aircraft and tactical attack units. This move comes as the Pentagon evaluates sending 10,000 more troops to the Middle amid the escalating conflict that began on February 28.
