Iran Appoints New Supreme Leader

The Assembly of Experts of Iran has already appointed the new Supreme Leader who will command the country in the midst of a military conflict with Israel and the United States, members of the clerical body reported on Sunday. The decision comes to fill the power vacuum following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on February 28 in a wave of combined attacks. Despite the importance of the appointment, the regime opted for secrecy and did not reveal the identity of the chosen one. While the name remains under seven locks, the strongest versions point to Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late leader, possibly being the successor, thus maintaining the family line of command. The appointment occurs in a climate of extreme hostility, marked by the recent bombing of enemy aircraft against five oil facilities in the Iranian capital and Alborz province. In this regard, Mohsen Heydari, representative of Khuzestan province, shared that "the most suitable candidate, approved by the majority of the Assembly of Experts, has already been designated." In the same vein, cleric Mohamad Mehdi Mirbagheri confirmed through a video released by the Fars agency that "a firm opinion was adopted, reflecting the majority position." "The vote to appoint the guide took place and the guide was elected," stated Ahmad Alamolhoda, a member of the expert body, who anticipated that the name will be announced at a later stage. According to the Argentine News Agency, the speed of the election responds to the need to stabilize the command of the Persian nation, which has been seriously besieged for a week. Keramat Veyskarami, an oil sector executive, reported that "four oil depots and a petroleum products transportation center were attacked by enemy aircraft." Although the official assured that the fire is under control, the material damage and external pressure present a critical scenario for the new leader, who will have the final say on state affairs in a region that awaits with expectation and fear the end of the mystery about his identity.
