Iran to Announce Mojtaba Khamenei as New Supreme Leader

There is no need to worry. Eshkuri's statement indicates that Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Ali Khamenei, may be announced as the new Supreme Leader. The 56-year-old Khamenei is a mid-ranking cleric who does not hold an official position in the system, but is known for his close ties with the Revolutionary Guards. A member of Iran's Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for choosing the new Supreme Leader, confirmed on Sunday that Khamenei's name will remain the leader of the country, despite the final decision not yet being announced. In a video aired by Iranian media, Hussein Eshkuri said: "The matter of leadership has been decided." He added: "Khamenei's name will remain as the leader. The vote has taken place, and I hope the authorities will announce the result."
