Iranian Parliament Dismisses Finance Minister

The Iranian Parliament on Sunday removed Finance Minister Abdolnaser Hemmati following his dismissal due to rising inflation and a drop in the national currency.

Hemmati, who took office as finance minister in August 2021, was accused of failing to address the country's economic problems. He became the fourth minister to be dismissed in the past year due to difficulties related to the economy. The parliament held a vote and passed a decision to dismiss Hemmati by a majority of votes. One of the members of parliament stated, "The decision to remove the finance minister was taken due to the failure in monetary-credit policy and the currency market."
