Tehran, December 20 (NA) — Iran executed a man convicted of spying for Israel, announced this Saturday the press organ of the judicial power of the Islamic Republic, according to international media reports.
«The death sentence for Aghil Keshavarz, found guilty of spying for the Zionist regime, of communication and cooperation with the regime, and of taking photos of military and security installations, was carried out after being confirmed by the Supreme Court and after legal procedures were concluded», the Mizan agency reported.
The media indicated that Keshavarz, presented as an 'agent of Mossad', the Israeli foreign intelligence service, had been arrested last May in the northwestern city of Urmia, when security agents surprised him taking pictures of the headquarters of an infantry division in the city.
The story reflected on the dw website (captured in the usual tour of the Argentine News Agency through international headlines) continues to say that the detainee claimed he had traveled to Urmia to participate in a scientific congress, 'but when checking his mobile phone, a message was discovered from a number linked to the Zionist regime and from a person with the username 'Osher'.
'Subsequently, in the search of his place of residence, more documents and evidence were obtained', explained the Iranian justice.
The Judicial Power added that in his confessions, the condemned admitted to having collaborated with Israeli intelligence services 'with the intention of harming the Islamic Republic and providing them with information about the country'.
In total, 16 people accused of spying for Israel since June, when both countries maintained the so-called 12-Day War, the first of them even before the clashes ended, were executed.
