Iran Introduces Temporary Water Cuts Amid Crisis

Amid the severe water crisis in Iran, water supplies will be temporarily cut off in the evenings until the morning, particularly in the capital Tehran. Iran's ISNA news agency reported on Saturday that Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi stated: "We are forced to cut off water supplies to citizens some evenings so that reservoirs can be refilled." The minister also added that a significant drop in water pressure is expected, calling on residents to install water tanks and pumps to compensate for the supply interruptions. Water has already been cut off from evening until the next morning in several areas of Tehran, and storing water has become part of daily life, especially for use in toilets.

President calls for strict water conservation

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian pointed out this week that strict water conservation measures could be implemented if it does not rain by next month. In case the drought continues, Pezeshkian is even considering evacuating residents of the capital Tehran, which has a population of about 15 million. However, observers believe that such a measure is nothing more than a symbolic statement with no practical possibility of implementation, as relocating the capital would take years, if not decades, due to the concentration of all central authorities and most residents' workplaces in Tehran.
