UN urges US to investigate Iran school attack

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, urged the United States to promptly conclude its investigation into the attack on a primary school in Iran and to make the results public, emphasizing that "there must be justice for the terrible harm caused". Turk made these statements in a video message during an urgent debate within the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, noting that the bombing of the primary school had caused "visceral horror". In the case of this school, the responsibility for investigating it promptly, impartially, transparently, and thoroughly, to determine the facts and lay the groundwork for accountability, lies with those who carried out the attack, Turk stressed. He underlined that differences between countries will not be resolved by "killing schoolchildren". Turk pointed out that attacks by the United States and Israel were increasingly directed at densely populated residential areas of Iran and destroyed civilian infrastructure, describing the attacks on nuclear facilities as "reckless and incomprehensible". He then called on the United States and Israel to end their attacks against Iran and urged all parties to act with moderation and return to negotiations. The attack on the school drew the attention of the Vatican, particularly due to the scant coverage it received from major international media, as highlighted in an article on its official website.
