In western Iran, a member of the Basij forces, subordinate to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed early Thursday morning. He became the first officially announced victim of protests that, on their fifth day, have engulfed several cities in anger over the high cost of living. According to Saeed Pur Ali, the deputy governor of Lorestan province, «a 21-year-old Basij member in the city of Kuhdasht was killed by rioters while defending public order». He also noted that «13 police officers and Basij members were injured by stone-throwing during the protests in Kuhdasht».
